Mexico Flooding : No End in Sight
Mexico's President is calling it "one of the worst natural disasters" to hit Mexico. Floods, centered in the Tabasco region have forced thousands from their homes. 70 percent of the area is underwater after a week of heavy rains. Nearly all services, including potable water and public transportation , were shut down. And while the rain has stopped for now, more rain is predicted which will undoubtedly cause the already overflowing rivers to continue to rise.
Of the about 700,000 people presumed stranded by the flooding, 300,000 still need to be rescued. The police and emergency rescue crews are stretched thin and families have been separated. The state of Chiapas also has had flooding, with about 100,000 people impacted there.
President Calderon is asking for help, in the form of bottled water, canned goods, diapers and other basic supplies.
