The Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain is one of my favorite museums and today it opens a shiny new 237,000 square foot extension. King Juan Carlos and Queen SofĂa attended the opening ceremony for the extention designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo at a cost of $219 million.
The New York Times has a beautiful slide show of the new wing, including photos of its construction and the story behind it.
The interior looks lovely but the exterior sticks out like a sore thumb in my opinion.

Thanks for the slideshow link…really enjoyed this story.
As an unschooled art fan, I have a question: does anyone know what the painting in slide 10 (of 12) is? I’m very curious as to the name & painter.
Thanks.
