Mala Gets a Taste of Unexpected Mexico : Bohemia Style

2:00 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Events|Food|New York City · Comments Off

1.jpgLast week I had the multi-sensory pleasure of attending Unexpected Mexico here in NYC. The event, sponsored by Bohemia Beer, was a feast, literally, featuring three top Mexican chefs, drinks, and musica.

Upon entering Skylight Studio, an events space in West SoHo, I was greeted by modern Mexican art pulled from the vast FEMSA collection. Some of the artists featured included Ruffino Tamayo, Gerardo Murillo, Carlos Merida, Angel Zerraga and Pedro Coronel.

The features of the evening came via the chefs, Patricia Quintana, Rick Bayless and Monica Patino.

The food sampling were perfectly paied with the music of Mexican musical icon Eugenia Leon.

See photos, videos and the menu after the jump.

It was a little boy, not illegal immigrants or separatist Latinos who started at least one of the California wildfires.

A boy who was interviewed about the Buckweed fire, which burned nearly 60 square miles and destroyed 21 homes in Los Angeles County, “admitted to playing with matches and accidentally starting the fire,” the county sheriff said in a statement.

The boy was released to his parents and does not yet face any charges.

Don’t forget that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vowed to “hunt down the people responsible.”

EI.jpgEnrique Iglesias fans have a new virtual way to hang out with each other and with the fortunately talented son of papi Julio.

On the heels of his critically acclaimed eighth studio album, Insomniac, and the kick off of his 20-date international tour, Enrique Iglesias launched his exclusive online fan community, EnriqueFanClub.com.

The new online home, which is just as pretty as the singer, provides a place for Enrique to interact with his most enthusiastic fans and to connect his fans with one another. The site will feature up-to-the-minute Enrique news, tour information, interactive behind-the-scenes multimedia, journals, an extensive collection of photographs, monthly contests and giveaways, interviews and a members-only message board and chat room.

31madrid600.jpgAll of Spain and much of the world was waiting to see the sentences handed down against those accused of murdering 191 people and wounding more than 1,800 in the March 11, 2004, bombing of Madrid commuter trains. This morning Spain’s National Court handed down sentences stretching to tens of thousands of years to three men. The court found 18 others guilty of lesser charges related to the attacks, such as belonging to a terrorist organization.

Spain’s Prado Museum Gets Extended

Pradoslide11.jpgThe Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain is one of my favorite museums and today it opens a shiny new 237,000 square foot extension. King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía attended the opening ceremony for the extention designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo at a cost of $219 million.

The New York Times has a beautiful slide show of the new wing, including photos of its construction and the story behind it.

The interior looks lovely but the exterior sticks out like a sore thumb in my opinion.

Best Latin Children’s Album
Miguelito

It was only a matter of time before someone tried to make a little baby reggaetonero. Something is a little scary and a liitle cute about this kid. The bling bling is scary as are the backup dancers but he’s a little kid! So he’s cute. You also have to love his suggestion at locking up all the rival reggaetoneros in a room to work out their drama.
