Juan Luis Guerra sued

jlguerra.jpgDominican music legend Juan Luis Guerra is being sued by his producer, puertorriqueña Maritza Casiano for breach of contract. We’d love to give you the details, but I’m afraid there aren’t many. Apparently Casiano and Guerra have worked together for over 20 years, and something went wrong with a contract, so it’s off to San Juan’s Federal Court. The official statement reads:

“Casiano Group ni la productora Maritza Casiano emitirán declaraciones más allá de las que explica el documento presentado en el tribunal de la Corte federal”, indica la comunicación que recuerda “los más de 20 años de relación y el gran afecto entre las partes”.

According to Spain’s 20 Minutos, Casiano says she is “very affected” and prefers that the courts put an end to the dispute between her and Juan Luis Guerra.

Nota9.jpgProgressives around Colombia are celebrating today the triumph of the left in Bogota’s municipal elections. Columnist María Jimena Duzán of Colombia’s El Tiempo lays out how Uribe’s antics actually ended up producing more support for Moreno:

The flattening triumph of Samuel Moreno in the elections for Bogota’s mayor, aside from consolidating the Democratic Pole as the premiere political force in the capital, demonstrates that we Bogotanos don’t like the president sticking his nose into our business and telling us whom we should vote for. His intervention was so crude that it ended producing the opposite effect. In the end, this strategy took votes away from Peñalosa [the candidate Uribe endorsed].

Partial results in Argentina indicate that current President Nestor Kirchner will switch jobs with his wife and first lady Cristina Fernandez in December. This is the first time a female president has actually been elected in the Southern Cone nation, Isabel Peron — who married Juan Peron after Evita’s death — was his vice president when he died in 1974, and served for 20 chaotic months before a military coup ousted her. Many are comparing the new power couple to Juan and Evita Peron. No plans for a musical are yet in place, though.
