Last night was the MTV Latinoamérica awards 2007 in Mexico City and the big winner was Mana, taking home awards for being the Artists of the Year and the Best Group or Duo. According to Despierta America on Univision being in their home country of Mexico didn’t mean that Mana and Belinda, who won two awards out of her five nominations, were spared being booed.
Diego Luna hosted the event and he had problems of his own like the mic not working.
Robert Smith of the Cure performed as did Juanes and Avril Lavigne (is she really popular in Latin America?) Avril actually took home two awards, Canción del año” y “Artista Pop Internacional.
Moreover Juanes and The Cure took home special awards. Juanes for being un “Agente del Cambio” and The Cure for being an Influence.
Babasónicos (whom I loooove)won an award for best rock artist.
Julieta Venegas won best “Artista pop”, Daddy Yankee won as the “Artista urbano” and Panda (I’ve been struggling to get into them) won as “Artista alternativo”.
Evanescence (they’re still around) won “Artista Rock Internacional”.
Via / El Pais y Univision’s Despierta America.
