To be filed under I’ve Seen It All: Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara’s face is now on, of all things, a bikini. The Monday edition of The New York Times has a story about a topic we’ve visited quite a few times here: the commercialization of Che’s image. In it, Guevara’s daughter talks about her fight against this trend, and what she see as acceptable and unacceptable use of her father’s visage.

Paulina Rubio could be accused of being a little too patriotic. She’s metida en un pedo — in big trouble — for posing in her birthday suit, covered only by the Mexican flag.
Cosmopolitan magazine’s Spanish edition features Paulina Rubio, 36, apparently naked underneath a red, white and green sheet.Mexico’s Interior Department said the photographs may have violated an article in the National Flag, Shield and Anthem Law.
“May have violated?” Anybody remember this (relatively tame) incident?
The UK’s SkyNews reports that the Paulina could be fined around $4000 for the “desecration” of the Mexican flag. She can tack that on to her mounting Mexican tax debts. Maybe she should have stuck to pretending to be Spanish.

Last week we told you how Lost star Michelle Rodriguez thought she was too good for community service. Well a judge thinks she’s too bad to be on the streets, and has sentenced her to 6 months in jail:
Actress Michelle Rodriguez was slapped with a 180-day prison sentence by a Los Angeles judge on Wednesday for probation violation in a hit-and-run case, justice officials told AFP.The 29-year-old Texas-born star, most famous for her role in hit US television drama “Lost,” must report to jail to begin her sentence by December 24, the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said.
It’s the stuff that show Celebrity Justice is made of. One minute your starring on one of television’s most successful primetime shows, and the next you are behind bars. How does this stuff happen?

I’ve been an Orishas fan for a few years now and this video is just hypnotizing. What’s just as good is their latest cd Antidiótico (more on Orishas to come as they have multple nominations).

Yesterday I wrote about how well Plan Colombia has worked out for the people there. Not surprisingly, the U.S. wants to spread its program to other Latin American nations. Next stop, Mexico.
The US intends to supply Mexico with a $1bn aid package to help combat an increasingly costly and violent war against drugs, according to a top Mexican diplomat.
The agreement, which some experts have dubbed ”Plan Mexico” after the controversial multi-billion-dollar anti-narcotics package the US established with Colombia in 2000, would be spread out over two years and include the supply of intelligence, training and equipment such as helicopters and boats.
Plan Mexico is said to differ from Plan Colombia in that no US troops would be allowed to operate on Mexican soil.
