26 Sep 2007Luis Miguel raised eyebrows at his recent show in Las Vegas not only because his (“she’s not my daughter”) hija Michelle Salas was in attendance, but because of his hairstyle. Mexico’s El Universal calls it Sinatra-esque, and I call it plain old dorky:

Hugo Chavez is getting into the film business, or rather the government of Venezuela is, funding a new state-controlled movie studio called Cinema Villa. And as you might have guessed, the content of the films set to be produced are political in nature:
Now rolling are biopics about national heroes and villains, including Luis Posada Carriles, the former CIA operative who allegedly masterminded a jetliner bombing and tried to kill Fidel Castro.Scenes are being shot in and around Caracas this month for the movie about Posada, considered by Chavez to be a Latin American version of Osama bin Laden. Scheduled for international release next year, it’s one of a growing number of films the socialist government is financing in a fusion of politics and art.
The trend is a boost to homegrown cinema in Venezuela, but critics say it reeks of Soviet-style propaganda efforts.

Bolivian President Evo Morales said he’s been treated great by the people of the NYC but complained of having to wait three hours before landing. Morales, in a speech before the UN General Assembly said that he continues to be a target of the U.S. and its Department of State, specifically referring to the difficulties his ministers had in getting visas.
While I don’t doubt that the U.S. is giving Bolivia a hard time, because of its relationship with Iran and Venezuela, but the plane thing probably had more to do with our shitty air traffic control system here.

Did anyone watch Cane last night? Billed as the 1st all Latino primetime drama, I thought it was pretty good. They certainly packed alot of drama into the first episode, maybe too much because it reminded me a little of a novela minus the cheesy music and silicone. I loved seeing so many incredible Latino actors on screen. I loved that fact that Jimmy Smits’ character is complex. I loved the fact that Spnaish was spoken on the show with English subtitles and yeah the music was hot. Hopefully the show will stay around for awhile. What did you all think?
