mirathla.jpgWhile Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa gets to keep his gig after having an affair, the woman he had an affair with isn’t so lucky. Mirthala Salinas, gets her suspension lifted but returns to work on Monday at Telemundo KVEA-TV Channel 52’s Inland Empire bureau in Riverside as a general assignment reporter instead of as the L.A. fill in anchor. Doesn’t seem fair does it? It takes two to tango last time I checked.

601-AME_25boli.embedded.prod_affiliate.84.jpg While Bush and many others in NYC protested Iran’s President Mahmud Ahmadinejad at both the United Nations and Colombia University, others were making nice with Iran. On Monday Evo Morales’ administration announced that coming soon would be a diplomatic relationship with Iran. Evo’s opposition say that he is acting as Hugo Chavez’s lapdog. Hugo Chavez canceled his appearance at the U.N General Assembly opting instead to stay home and focus on his current gig as a negotiator with FARC. Ahmadinejad will visit Bolivia and Venezuela this week.

Mexican court: HIV-positive soldiers may serve

bay.jpgIn a landmark decision, the Mexican Supreme Court has ruled that the forced expulsion of soldiers from military bodies because they are HIV-positive is unconstitutional:

“Being HIV-positive does not in itself imply an inability to serve in the armed forces,” the judges wrote in the ruling issued Monday. “Therefore it will be up to the military to determine, case by case, if the degree of effect on the soldier’s health makes it impossible to remain in active service.”

The ruling was made by the Supreme Court after hearing five consecutive cases with the same charge: that soldiers had been discharged from the armed forces because of their HIV status. Back in February, the Court ordered the Mexican Army and Marines to readmit four soldiers who were discharged because they were HIV-positive.

al.jpgFor all of who believe that Hugo Chavez is modeling himself after Fidel Castro, here’s some proof for you: he’s just as long-winded. Last Sunday, on his weekly radio and television address “Alo Presidente“, Chavez spoke for an unprecedented 8 hours straight.

According to Spain’s EFE Agency via 20 Minutos, who apparently had the stomach to sit through it all, Chavez recited poetry by Pablo Neruda, sang a couple of songs, defended his friend Irani president Mahmud Ahmadineyad and spoke about his upcoming visit to France, among other things.

Sorry, Huguito, but you shut down a television station and restrict the airing of telenovelas to give your people this?

As far as modeling himself after Fidel, I think he’s actually beat the Cuban leader’s record — which was 7 hours — after which he collapsed.

Gay World Cup? Who Knew??!!!

_44136148_match203b.jpgEl futbol, or soccer, as lamentable it is known here in the U.S. is a super macho realm, no matter if it’s actually being played or watched. Men gather together, sweat, swear, cheer, drink. It’s male bonding at its best/worst. So who would think that there would be a gay World Cup and Argentina of all places? Well it’s true. Represented are over 500 players from 28 nations from various continents. This year marks the first time that the gay World Cup is held in Latin America.

The slogan of the Mexican team perhaps best sums up the spirit of the gay football world cup – “the ball is round for everyone”.

Right on!!!
