The President of Iran isn’t the only one causing trouble at the UN. Yesterday Ricans and many others marched in solidarity with the Rican community to honor el Grito de Lares, September 23rd 1868, traditionally celebrated and commemorated as the birth of the Puerto Rican nation, when Puerto Ricans rose up against Spanish colonial rule in a revolt. In 2005 the FBI took advantage of that date by killing Filiberto Ojeda Rios. The event was also an opportunity to bring attention to the continued colonial status of the island of Puerto Rico.

Ever wonder how celebs get their eyelashes to look so long and luscious? The answer isn’t mascara, but fake lashes — the kind that is causing a stir in Spain, after consumers complained to the national consumer protection agency about Penelope Cruz’s deceitful lashes:
Cosmetics company L’Oréal has modified its Telescopic Mascara commercial featuring Penelope Cruz and has admitted that [the lashes] are fake, according to a press release distributed by FACUA [Spain's Federation of Consumers in Action].In the commercial, the actress appears on a balcony with a telescope and says, “Imagine, lashes that can reach the stars,” and now in the spot being broadcast in Spain, at the bottom of the screen there will be a message that says “commercial done with lash inserts,” it adds.
Back in July, the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority said that the ad was misleading, though L’Oreal claimed that the use of fake lashes was a standard practice. Since then, FACUA has been advocating for L’Oreal to add a disclaimer to the commercial stating that Pe’s lashes were a fake-out.

Bella and talented Salma Hayek is mami, having given birth to a nena, named Valentina Paloma Pinault. Nice name no? Salma’s publicist said on Friday that mami and hija are doing well. We don’t know yet what the baby looks like. Let’s hope she’s a cutie because sometimes beautiful people do make ugly babies.

While many outsiders consider the strides being made towards a more progressive society in Mexico’s capital — among them the legalization of civil unions for gay couples — and on the national level, a national study shows that if the country’s youth are an indicator, there is still quite a long way to go with regard to a truly equal society.
According to a survey called The National Youth Survey:
53 percent [of youths] don’t want a gay person as a neighbor. [Nearly] the same percentage rejects having to be around people with HIV and 25 percent don’t want indigenous people close by.
According to Mexico’s La Jornada, Emilio Álvarez Icaza, head of the Human Rights Commission in the Federal District, warns that the youth of the capital are becoming more and more discriminatory in their views.
