Beyonce is "Irreemplazable"

I shamefully admit that I love Beyonce's Irreplaceable. And when I heard she'd be doing the song in Spanish, I imagined some terrible lyrics like "A la izquierda, a la izquierda". Those aren't the lyrics, but the real ones aren't much better (video after the jump).

Today she launches her new Spanish album "Irreemplazable" with versions of her English-language hits, including duets with Alejandro Fernandez and Shakira, reports Venezuela's El Universal.

"I sang in Spanish because my fans ask me to. Much of what I do as an artist is inspired by my fans, and growing up in Houston made it easier," says the singer.

The video for "Irremplazable" has been on YouTube for a while now, but luckily I only saw it today, as I really needed a dose of laughter this morning. First of all, doesn't it look suspiciously similar to the English video? That's because it is the English video with some very bad dubbing.

While Beyonce's got some excellent pronunciation skills going on on this one, the "get out of my face" attitude of this song gets lost in the delivery of the lyrics, either because she's concentrating on getting them right or because they are so bad. The catchy chorus "you must not know 'bout me, you must not know 'bout me" gets translated as:

Ya sabes tú de mi
No me hagas reir

My favorite line is actually: "Lárgate, me das asco"

According to El Universal, the album is currently available exclusively in Wal-Mart stores.

not to take anything away from her, cus she's a great singer [that at times wears ugly dresses] but in either language...i rather see the video with no volume at all.

For some reason, when targeting a different market, I appreciate the effort of shooting two versions of the video, even if it's the same idea, and just the parts where it's obvious are edited in... but if this is the official video... hmmm, not too crazy about it. Then again, I'm not a fan, ha ha.

RE: shooting two videos, it's the typical "kill two birds with one stone" attitude of marketers who think by translating something they are doing right by the Latino market. Cut corners because in the end, it's not your number one priority.
