Dem Presidential Candidate GLBT Forum

obama_11.jpgLast night the Democratic candidates for president faced off in a nationally televised forum directed at gay voters and broadcast live via the cable Logo network. The forum sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, surprised no one. The hot button issue (besides what was Melissa Etheridge doing there?) was gay marriage with the front runners making it clear that they support civil unions but not full fledged marriage. Gov. Bill Richardson stuck his foot in his mouth again surrounding GLBT issue. He did apologize for his use of the word maricon on the Don Imus show. According the Pam’s House Blend live blogging of the event:

He apologized, he said, but he said that people should look at his words, not his actions. He said he was the first governor to have trans-inclusive protections under the law. He talked about his efforts to expand domestic partnerships and how he has added LGBT members to his cabinet. He regrets what he said but again asks that people judge him by what he has done for the LGBT community.

The consensus by many is that Richardson really bombed at this debate. He wasn’t able to defend how he supports civil unions but not marruage and he fell flat on his face when Melissa Etheridge if he believed homosexuality was a choice or biological.

“It’s a choice,” he said at first. “I’m not a scientist. I don’t see this as an issue of science or definition.”
When pressed on the point that opponents of gay rights often assert that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice, Richardson said, “I don’t think it’s a matter of preferences, I think it’s a matter of equality.”
His campaign later issued a statement “clarifying” his position: “Let me be clear — I do not believe that sexual orientation or gender identity happen by choice.”

I stand by this statement.

Um, what? Does he have dual personalities? Strike three for this guy. First he shrugs off your question, then Imus, then this.

“What’s the big deal? Gays and lesbians either choose it or are born into it, or maybe both…. This line of concern seems to be complete nonsense to me, but not being gay, what do I know?”

Precisely; It’s high time that people who would make such a cavalier statement as the one you made get their heads out of the sand and address the issue of millions of Americans who live without complete civil rights – that’s why it’s a “big deal”.
It’s a “big deal” because millions of Americans live in fear, are physically and emotionally abused, and because government, manipulated by religious zealots with an intolerant agenda abuse their power to marginalize people who committed crimes invented by religious institutions in violation of the separation of church and state.

Being a Lesbian what do I know about being Straight. :)

When I was a kid, before I knew what a lesbian was or anything really about that issue, I thought that I was born as a girl so that I did not impregnate a lot of women like my father did.

My gorgeous father was chased by so many young women that who in their right mind could fault him for natures course. Yet at that time there was no abortion. I mean come on now! How many children have the same father, mother, both parents? How many politians does it take to impregnate a White House Intern?

Ooops! Do not answer that.
(Answer: one or more.)

So, the ideal marriage is this marriage made in heaven wherein the young male who is attracted to every female in horomonal range must of natures course be married? Sounds Moroman to me. Oops sorry, how prejudice of me. What an oversight.

I beleive in Marriage like I believe in Adult Sex: it is between two Consenting Adults.

Marriages should not be forged out of ideals. Those are doomed to fail. If we uphold any ideal that supports our Constitutional Rights it is the Freedom that God made us who, what, where, how, why, when we are and we have the right to commune with our source of God. And, that includes how God chooses loved ones for us.

Sounds odd does it not? Well it is not odd when we consider that creation creates. No scientist can tell us how. No religious leader can tell us why. So it is within our very own nature that gives us some deep internal reality that no other person can know better than one’s self. And those who have gone deep into ourselves know that at some point there are no more questions. Either you have faith in one’s internal nature or you go crazy.

Yes ending all that self-questioning and gaining Faith in the Universe, Cosmos, God… Nature, whatever we call it is a Religious Experience. If we really want to believe that we have rights that our government affirm, then we need to realize that we all have equal rights.

I am grateful to the powers that created me that Nature designed me to not impregnate women like my father. God knows I would have if that was my genetic design.
