Does anyone else think that maybe, just maybe Jennifer Lopez is taking her role as Puchi as more important than the role of Hector Lavoe and in the process trying to one up hubby Marc Anthony? The co-star of el Cantante is featured on the cover of Fashion Rocks magazine, a supplement to Conde Nast publications available to subscribers only. Inside the magazine is an extensive profile of Jenny from the Block, painting her as the disciplined backbone to Marc Anthony’s artsiness. So is she pulling a Puchi?
El Cantante, which opened last week, has gotten many mixed reviews, even from those who had a hand in the project. Some like
salsa singer Ismael Miranda, a Lavoe contemporary who actually plays his father in “El Cantante,” say the film focuses tpp much on the darker side of Lavoe and not his musical achievements and contributions. Lavoe’s former bandleader, partner and producer Willie Colon said that part of the problem of the film is the portrayal of Puchi as a saint when he blames Lavoe’s downfall on her.
“I believe that Puchi actually caused Hector’s downfall,” Colón said. “I never understood why he put up with such a negative, homely, vulgar person. The biggest crime is the canonization of Puchi so that Jennifer can play her.”
And now with news that Jennifer is going to tour with hubby Marc (seriously who has the better voice?) is J. Lo. Marc’s Puchi?
