Don’t Get ICED!

iced.jpgPolitical awareness through a video game? That seems to be part of the idea behind ICED!, a video game that allows player to roleplay and be put in the shoes of people who lose their student visas and others detained by the Department of Homeland Security.

“The game allows you to get into the body of a person, so you can experience what they are going through. There are very few opportunities to get that perspective,” said Mallika Dutt, head of the nonprofit Breakthrough, which produced the game and uses new media to highlight social issues around the world.

teta.jpgI already took heat for expressing myself about taking heat for breastfeeding in public, for supporting women who choose not to breastfeed or who cannot for numerous reasons, and for suggesting of all things that there is ::gasp:: racism in some lactivist circles. The debate on when, where, and how to breastfeed rages especially loud this week as it is World Breastfeeding Week called for by World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, a partnership that includes the World Health Organization, UNICEF, La Leche League International and a host of lactation specialists and consultants.
