congo.jpgBrazil and its people didn’t find a joke made by a U.S. Olympic Committee worker funny. A USOC worker wrote “Welcome to the Congo!” on a whiteboard in the organization’s Rio de Janeiro media center for the Pan American Games. Once that pic hit the front pages of Brazil’s papers the message was labeled “full of prejudiced” The now fired worker, Kevin Neuendorf, said he wrote it because it was hot in Rio.

Bananas.JPGBananas may be the cause of sterility in at least 5,000 agricultural workers from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama. According to five lawsuits filed in the U.S. banana pickers claim they were left sterile after being exposed in the 1970s to the pesticide known as DBCP. Long-term exposure to the pesticide causes male reproductive problems, including decreased sperm count and it is probable human carcinogen. This is the first time such a case has come before a U.S. court. Some of the multinational corporations named in the lawsuit include Dole and Dow.

Evacivilceremony.jpgLa ama de casa desesperada, Eva Longoria, married NBA superstar Tony Parker not once but twice!. On Friday the couple had a 45-minute civil ceremony in France as required by French law. A religious ceremony took place on Saturday, 7/7/07, at around 5 p.m., Paris time, across the street from the Louvre in a religious ceremony at the Church of Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois. The post boda fieston took place in a 17th-century chateau in the French countryside about an hour away from the ceremony site. Approximately 250 people attended the fete (my invitation must have gotten lost in the mail).

Felicidades to the pareja.
