Perez Hilton, the blogosphere’s most popular celebrity blogger is in hot water again over copyright infringement. According to Variety.com, the site went off line when its hosting company pulled the plug:
After numerous warnings against Hilton’s (aka Mario Lavandeira) use of copyrighted celebrity images, the Oz-based Crucial Paradigm took the site off line; it was dark for a number of hours before it returned to the Internet with a different host.Hilton is currently named in four lawsuits involving eight photo agencies for his alleged theft of photographs that appear on his site, one that’s been a popular gossip destination for some 2½ years. Hilton frequently adds his own captions to the shots.

A one hundred year retrospective of the life and art of Frida Kahlo at Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes was the site of political unrest yesterday, as supporters of leftist ex-candidate for the Mexican presidency, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (referred to by his supporters as the “legitimate President of Mexico) gathered to protest the arrival of President Felipe Calderón and his guests. Calderón and a slew of his cronies, among them some celebrities, were attending a special event in honor of the Kahlo exhibit and were the subject of insults as they entered. Mexico City’s La Jornada paints an excellent picture of how things played out:
The biggest examples of aggression happened on the East side of the building, next to the Alameda Central park and at one of the entrances in which the protestors alternated between chants against the President and in favor of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and insults towards those who were going in: “¡lambiscones!” “¡cucarachas!” y “¡lamehuevos del espurio!”

Farmer’s Branch, Texas is out of luck for now when it comes to enforcing their anti-immigrant policies thanks to the decision of a judge on Tuesday. The judge ruled that the ordinances, that included ordering landlords to verify renters’ legal status, could not take effect while a legal challenge against them was in place. Currently American Civil Liberties Union and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF)have a suit questioning the legality of the ordinances.

Yesterday I reported on how the wife of missing Iraq soldier, Alex Jimenez, faced deportation. I a pleased to report today that late yesterday a U.S. Homeland Security Department spokeswoman said that Yaderlin Jimenez did not face deportation, that her case was closed and would remain so.

While ex-President of Peru Alberto Fujimori might be at risk of being extradited from him current home in Chile to the country he left in a flurry of controversy, he doesn’t seem too worried. He’s got his sights set on a political future in another country: Japan, where a political party has asked him to run for Senator.
“In light of this proposal, Alberto Fujimori has left his definite response pending, as he analyzes the benefits of his possible election as Senator in Japan could have for the Preuvian people,” said the ex-president’s press office in a statement.

Proving yet again that no good deed goes unpunished, Yaderlin Jimenez, the wife of a missing in action soldier stationed in Iraq faces deportation. Spc. Alex R. Jimenez has been missing since May 12 when there was an attack on his unit in Iraq. He petitioned for his wife’s green card but a judge put a stop on those proceedings since he went missing. If Yaderlin were deported to her native Dominican Republic she would have to wait 10 years before she could reapply to enter the U.S.
In my opinion there is only one word for this : disgraceful. Your husband goes to fight in the name of the United States and this is how the U.S. repays.

The world’s tallest basketball player isn’t superstar Yao Ming, it’s his countryman Sun Ming Ming, who, instead of joining the NBA is starting his professional career in Mexico. Sun Ming Ming (seen arriving in Monterrey in the image) has just joined Monterrey’s Fuerza Regia, where he will play for at least a year.
Sun Ming Ming had already played on a few minor league teams here in the U.S., among them the ABA’s Maryland Nighthawks, but has decided to take a detour from his goal of joining an NBA team and try his luck on Fuerza Regia.

It’s not enough that the Pope wants to tell us what to do and what not to do with our own bodies — now he wants to cramp our driving style. The Vatican announced today, via press release, its Ten Commandments of Driving. Heed thee:
The 36-page document was put together by the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Migrants and Itinerant People.“Thou shalt not drive and drink”, “thou shalt not make rude gestures behind the steering wheel” and “help accident victims” are among the 10 recommendations for motorists.
The document also warns that driving can bring out “primitive” behaviour in motorists, including “cursing, blasphemy, loss of sense of responsibility”.
It says that automobiles can be “an occasion of sin” – particularly when they are used for dangerous overtaking or for prostitution.
I’m guessing the Pope-mobile has never been the site of such transgressions.

Former model, VJ, and infomercial star Daisy Fuentes, is accused of using sweatshop labor for her clothing line sold at Kohl’s. Last year the same organization, The National Labor Committee, called out Thalia for the same thing.
You’d think celebs would do a little more research (or have someone do research for them) before slapping their name on a product. Or maybe they just don’t care as long as they are making a buck.
