Austrailian Big Brother Dissing el Tricolor?

bandera-copy.jpgImagine an episode of a Mexican game show where one game invited participants to throw slime filled balloons at a United States flag. Just imagine the outrage, the protests. Well Austraila’s Big Brother contestants threw goo-filled balloons at the Mexican flag as part of their Friday night games.

The incident occurred during the show’s “Mexican Night” challenge with contestants dressed in mariachi outfits playing musical chairs and serving Chili con Carne to win points.

Sounds like one of those racist campus parties, no? Mind you, the flag used displayed the Mexican national symbol – “an eagle devouring a snake on top of a cactus – in the middle but had the green, white and red colors in the wrong order,” according to ABC.AU. Mexican officials were not amused and demanded an apology.

Thalia’s baby to be a gringo

thalia.jpgMexican pop star Thalia, also known Mrs. Tommy Mottolla, will give birth to her child in the U.S. for “reasons of safety”, according to her fashion designer, Gustavo Mata:

“The baby will be born outside of Mexico for safety and practical reasons, and also because Thalía is an American citizen and it’s much better for her that it be born there,” said the designer, a longtime friend of the singer.

Thalia can do whatever she wants, but why is it better that it be born here “because she’s an American citizen”? As far as safety is concerned, I guess she’s on guard because of the fact that her sister was kidnapped and Thalia later had to go in and fix the problem.

Ricky Martin gets a star

martin111606_03.jpgPop tart Ricky Martin will get a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame next year, along with a list of stars from the TV, film and recording industries. How they fit so many stars on that street each year is a mystery to me. Do they “delete” people after a while? Here’s the complete list of who will be honored in 2008:

Movies: Angela Bassett, Cate Blanchett, Tim Robbins, Stan Lee, the Munchkins (from “The Wizard of Oz”) and the Westmores of Hollywood, a longtime show-business makeup family.

Television: Howie Mandel, Susan St. James, Bill Geist, Kate Linder, Howie Mandel, Sherwood Schwartz, Vince McMahon and, posthumously, Brian Keith.

Recording: Brooks & Dunn, Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Red Hot Chili Peppers and, posthumously, George Harrison.

Live theater/performance: Stephen Schwartz.

“The Munchkins”? That one’s been a long time in the making — nearly 70 years. Not very PC either.
