The President of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade may have played a greater role in the 208 arrests that happened on Fifth Avenue two Sundays ago then originally admitted to. Madelyn Lugo is now admitting that she warned the New York City Police Department to be prepared for the Latin Kings. She said it was because she knew how controversial the street organization is. He actions may have been key in the mass sweeps that arrested not just so-called “gang” members but other non-affiliated parade goers.
Originally Ms. Lugo had stated that she had nothing against the Latin Kings, citing their being rejected from officially participating in the parade was due to their application arriving late. What really arrived late was Lugo’s coming clean about her role the arrests, which is the real controversy here.
