Disney Goes Latino : Stereotype Style
12:30 H | Topics: Marketing - Movies
What do you get when an animated chihuahua gets lost on vacation and meets animated Latinos who try to help her? The latest animated stereotype-fest from Walt Disney. The film, South of the Border, features the voice talents of notable Latinos like Salma Hayek, Andy Garcia, George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Piolin, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, and Edward James Olmos.
Looks like Disney is trying to cash in on Latino dollars and Latino children. I guess they figure with all the white princesses, one "Middle Eastern" princess, an Asian warrior, and Pocahontas, they need to give the Latinos something too, a dog (voiced by Drew Barrymore).

That is exactly how I feel everytime someone calls me Hispanic or Latino. We come from southern countries where there are so many racial and cultural diversity, that is totally unfair to put all of us together just because we share one of the hundreds of languages we speak. Stereotyping us is the easy way to control us. If you from there, you better start cooking this kind of food and dancing this kind of music. Otherwise you don't exist in the US?
