The Mexican government announced yesterday that due to slow passport processing time here in the U.S., it has decided to allow U.S. citizens to enter Mexican territory without a passport, with the only requirement for entry being “any kind of I.D.”, in a move to help accommodate travel to the country. Mexico’s El Universal reports that the if an Mexican immigration authority attempts to ask for further documentation from an American citizen, they will be committing a crime.
Wow, casi casi the same as when Mexicans try to travel to the U.S.! In all seriousness, it’s only fair to point out that Mexico has a lot to lose if in the summer months — high travel season — if it loses all of its American tourists.

People en Español is reporting that after a week of marked improvement in Aguilar’s health, the latest news this afternoon is that he has had to be moved to the intesive car unit to undergo hemodialysis, a procedure employed to clean the liver.
Aguilar’s doctor had this to say:
“Our greatest wish and the wish of his family is that Don Antonio get to leave the heart unit and continue his recovery on the third floor, where he’ll be able to recieve a few more visits in addition to those with Pepe and Flor, who have been with him since he was admitted.”
We wish the Aguilar family the very best, and Antonio a quick recovery. We’ll keep you posted on how this develops.

Mexico City is clearly trying to become the most liberal city in Latin America. It legalized early term abortion and same-sex legal unions. They’ve even discussed legalizing euthanasia. Leftists senators are at it again with a plan to to legalize sex work in the capital. Juan Bustos, a legislator with the leftist party that holds a majority in the city assembly who presented the bill said:
This activity must be regulated, it can’t just take place without control, without health support for the users or the workers.

What do you get when an animated chihuahua gets lost on vacation and meets animated Latinos who try to help her? The latest animated stereotype-fest from Walt Disney. The film, South of the Border, features the voice talents of notable Latinos like Salma Hayek, Andy Garcia, George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Piolin, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, and Edward James Olmos.
Looks like Disney is trying to cash in on Latino dollars and Latino children. I guess they figure with all the white princesses, one “Middle Eastern” princess, an Asian warrior, and Pocahontas, they need to give the Latinos something too, a dog (voiced by Drew Barrymore).

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t known for his speaking well of Latinos but he was given a chance to clarify his position on key issues like immigration yesterday at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists‘ 25th anniversary convention. The governator didn’t disapoint drawing gasps when he said that Latino immigrants need to stop watching Spanish language t.v.
“I know it sounds odd, and I may be getting myself in trouble for saying this,” Schwarzenegger said before launching into a retelling of his own struggle to master English. “I got rid of the television set and learned.”He added: “Even in the state capital, so many Latinos speak Spanish all the time.”
