Condi Wags Finger at Spain
13:32 H | Topics: Cuba - Politics - Spain
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Spain today to make nice with the Iberian nation but the first public words out of her mouth were of reproach. Condi criticized the Spanish government for its relationship with Cuba and said that Spain wasn't pulling its weight in Afghanistan. She said:
Democratic states have an obligation to act democratically, meaning to support opposition in Cuba, not to give the regime the idea that they can transition from one dictatorship to another...I would like to see all of the allies do more, and Spain is included in that list.Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero said he wasn't surprised by the differences. The U.S. government and Spain have also been at odds over Spain's relationship with Venezuela and its President Hugo Chavez.
If Condi is so concerned about how good relations between Cuba and Spain are maybe someone needs to show her the Iberia commercial.
