In Mexican society, the profession of policeman isn’t the most respected. Like in many other countries, most are suspicious of policemen, who are believed to be corrupt, capable of turning a blind eye to any crime or misdemeanor for a “mordida”. In the state of Nuevo León, in Northern Mexico, the Mexican army has arrested over 100 policemen believed to be linked to organized crime, and involved in the 51 murders that have occurred in the state this year:
Among these murders, most committed with large caliber weapons, are 18 murders of policeman, some of whom are presumed to be linked to organized crime and were victims of acts of vengeance by drug cartels who are fighting for the routes towards the U.S.

Michael Moore of Fahrenheit 9/11 fame (or infamy) is at it again. His latest film brought him and some 9-11-01 emergency workers to Cuba, but not to play where’s Fidel. Moore took those workers to get medical treatment in Cuba. But it’s all not big heartedness on Moore’s part. It’s all part of his soon to be released documentary Sicko.
The film is an attack on US drug companies and private health insurance firms, which Moore hopes to show at Cannes Film Festival next month.
Two years in the making, the flick also takes aim at the shortfall in medical care being provided to people who worked on the toxic World Trade Centre debris pile.

In this age of accessible technology, just about anybody can make a movie, even if you don’t have a camera — just use your cell phone. Spain will be the first country to honor movies made on cell phones with the first ever festival for films made with this medium this June, the Movil Film Fest:
The event, introduced in Barcelona as a part of the Internet Global Congress 2007, welcomes any type of short film made with a cell phone with a maximum duration of one minute, according to the festival’s director, Alberto Tognazzi.
Four awards will be given to the outstanding mobile shorts, in the categories of Best Short, Best Sequence Shot and Best Photography. The four awards will be voted on by the public via text message, and judging will be helped along by several prominent Spanish filmmakers.

People who were listening carefully to Jennifer Lopez when she appeared on American Idol the other night are sayings she’s speaking Scientology.
In response to a question from American Idol host Ryan Seacrest about judge Simon Cowell’s harsh judging of contestants, nurturing Jennifer scoffed at such harshness, telling Ryan that she believed that “concentrating on the rightness brings more rightness.” L. Ron Hubbard penned an essay on May 23, 1971, titled “Recognition of Rightness of the Being.” He wrote:
“If you have no rightnesses present…you will never be able to make any progress of any kind. So you have to realize that there are rightnesses present and then you increase those rightnesses.”
