After 10 years in the making, the city of San Antonio, Texas will welcome this week the opening of brand new museum dedicated exclusively to Latino culture and its history, the Museo Alameda. Its mission: To tell the story of the Latino experience in America through art, history and culture.alameda.jpg

The museum, located in the heart of San Antonio, in the historic Plaza El Mercado, belongs to the Alameda National Center for Latin Culture and the Arts and was created with support of the Smithsonian Institution, one of the most important philanthropic organizations in the U.S.

Organizers hope that the Museo Alameda, which has among its treasures an emerald ring that once belonged to the emperor Maximiliano de México, will attract 400,000 visitors per year. “U.S. culture is written in Hispanic ink and this museum is the best way to show our own and others our invaluable contribution to history,” said businessman Henry R. Muñoz, founder of the museum.

If you are in San Antonio, don’t miss the grand opening celebration this Friday night, which includes a free concert by Linda Ronstadt and fireworks. The museum will also be giving free admission to visitors all weekend. Visit, then tell us what you think of it!

marc_anthony.jpgAs we are in the midst of tax season, I must ask this question again: why can’t celebrities pay their taxes?

It seems that JLo’s hubby is joining the ranks of celebs who owe the government megabucks for not paying their taxes, reports Spain’s El Pais:

At least three companies he owns have not paid their taxes correcly and have been told to pay 2.5 million dollars to the state and city of New York. They will also have to pay an additional $180,000 in fines.

The companies involved are Ari Enterprises, which administers the singer’s tours, the record company Bolero Records and Marc Anthony Productions (MAP). In the case of Ari and Bolero, the lack of payment was for the period from 2001 to 2004. Marc Anthony also didn’t pay his personal taxes during that period.

Bushborder.jpgReading the headline of a recent article posted on the CBS Evening News website might lead one to envision scores of armed Mexicans shooting Border Patrol Agents. The headline alarmingly reads:Border Patrol Agents Under Attack Violence Against Agents In Yuma, Ariz. Up To 154 In First Six Months Of Fiscal Year. Reading further though, the weapons being used to “attack” are revealed as rocks.

Along the desert stretch where Arizona and Mexico meet, there’s more flying in the air than just dust. There are rocks flying back and forth toward the border agents, CBS News correspondent Kelly Cobiella reports.
It’s part of a nightly bombardment of Border Patrol vehicles and agents all along the southwestern border.

Of course getting hit with a rock has its potential consequences but don’t Border Patrol Agents have guns. Does this
accurately represents the locus of border violence?

daddy_yankee.jpgI don’t exactly if he smells good or bad but hopefully good enough to make his new venture a success. Daddy Yankee, el gran papi of Reggaeton is planning on launching his own men’s fragrance. Let’s just hope he doesn’t call it Gasolina.
