Jennifer Lopez : Como Ama Una Mujer Isn't the Chart Topper People Hoped

14:04 H | Topics: Celebrities - Movies - Music

comoamacover.jpgJennifer Lopez's first Spanish language album, Como Ama Una Mujer, was promoted vigorously in both Spanish and English language media, but apparently that wasn't enough and the lackluster response to the album is causing some to question the future of Jenny from the block's overall career.

This week, Lopez's first Spanish album, "Como Ama Una Mujer," sold a very measly 49,452 copies, according to hitsdailydouble.com. The album finished at No. 10 for the week, behind a repackaging of Elton John's greatest hits.
The comparison to Elton John is probably a little unfair given the length of his career and his broad appeal. The article goes on to look at Jennifer's film career which debuted with critical acclaim when she appeared in Selena as Selena.

However since then her choice of movies and her acting in them hasn't been so great. But that hasn't stopped her. La Lopez has two movies due to be released, Bordertown and El Cantante. While both have yet to be released to a wide public, already their quality has been called into question.

So what's the cause of Jennifer's failing career, if that is what is happening? Some are pointing to her marriage to Marc Anthony and interest in Scientology.Or perhaps she is spreading herself too thin with her hand also in the fashion industry.

Strangely enough, Billboard and EMI issued press releases that:

"Jennifer Lopez [...] beloved project storms the Billboard Latin chart nailing the #1 spot in its first week while also making a remarkable #10 debut on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart. She also makes history with the highest sales of a Spanish album debut, inclusive of English and Latin artists.
With this chart-topping debut, Jennifer joins an elite number of only five artists to ever land in the top ten with Spanish-language albums[...]. In addition, Como Ama Una Mujer sold more in one week digitally than any other Spanish-language release ever. Early chart numbers from overseas show amazing debuts in non-Spanish speaking countries like Switzerland (#1), Italy (#2) and Germany (#4)."

I guess it depends on your point of view? I'm on the sceptic side.

By the way, Billboard is also the ONLY critic that gave J-Lo a good review (check here, here and here).

this is ludicrous to me. it's no. 10 on a mainstream english chart. this is not a mainstream, english album. it posted higher than many english debut cds (macy gray, anyone?). 10 is damn good for a spanish album on a mainstream, english chart. i don't see how people expected to do much more. its no. 1 on both billboard's hot latin, and latin album charts. i don't believe hits daily double keeps latin chart numbers. and only 1 of 5 other spanish albums to chart in the top 10.

it's funny when someone is this successful in their overall careers. everything is measured against their previous success. any new artist would kill for a no. 10 spot. and they would be helmed as a success.

All I've got to say is that it takes a hell of a woman to achieve what she has. I must imagine that it wouldn't come easy for someone who is working DOUBLE as hard due to the fact that she is now one more of the very few who can make hit albums in two languages while also making movies, managing a clothes line and being a wife!! She has take DOUBLE critism from English and Spanish media like the article above. I would only like to add that I will forward to seeing her act in a Mexican movie which is the icing on the cake. And yes she is one of my idols.

I've know of Jennifer Lopez since she started in Selena (R.I.P) and I respect her for playing an awesome role. Selena is my favorite artist however, she was taken away by a selfish person! Nevertheless, Jennifer Lopez keeps her alive for me. As she is continuing to contribute to the Fashion, Music, and Acting fields as Selena would've done. Therefore, keep it going Jennifer :) You are a star that will always shine in my eyes as you give Hispanics a great feeling about staying true to your roots (Selenas is my favorite but you are my ICON). There is nothing wrong with interacting with other cultures and religions (white, black, blue, yellow, brown). You can't have one with out the other (at the end we are all looking for it).

You Friend,
Martin Jimenez

Leave it to a piece from fox news to draw insane conclusions based on random unrelated facts. 'Que Hiciste' has done amazing, and Jennifer's album is a conquest in and among itself. Props to her for taking the time to finally make this album. Plus, word on the street is that another english album is on the way this summer. Well done Jen!

(disculpe mi espanol)
Claro!
