For the past couple of weeks we’ve been telling you about the ongoing debate in Mexico City between city politicians and pro-life activists around a proposed bill to make abortion legal in Mexico’s capital. The debate has become hotter and hotter, and is now past the boiling point as Chespirito — a.k.a. Roberto Gómez Bolaños, the creator and star of legendary children’s show El Chavo del Ocho — a celebrity known for uniting Latinos all over the world has taken a step toward dividing Mexicans on this controversial topic.
Bolaños has joined pro-life activists to create television spots in which he recounts how his mother was told by doctors to terminate her pregnancy after an accident. In the spot, he goes on to say: “My mother told him, “Me? Have an abortion? Never.” That is to say, she defended life…my life. And thanks to her I’m here today.”

Jennifer Lopez’s first Spanish language album, Como Ama Una Mujer, was promoted vigorously in both Spanish and English language media, but apparently that wasn’t enough and the lackluster response to the album is causing some to question the future of Jenny from the block’s overall career.
This week, Lopez’s first Spanish album, “Como Ama Una Mujer,” sold a very measly 49,452 copies, according to hitsdailydouble.com. The album finished at No. 10 for the week, behind a repackaging of Elton John’s greatest hits.
The comparison to Elton John is probably a little unfair given the length of his career and his broad appeal. The article goes on to look at Jennifer’s film career which debuted with critical acclaim when she appeared in Selena as Selena.

Last Thursday night, Geraldo Rivera and Bill O’Reilly — “journalist” buddies on the Fox News Network – did something that two personalities on that network seldom do: disagree with each other. Fervently.
The topic was the death of two Virginia teenagers as the result of an automobile accident caused by a drunk driver who just happened to be an undocumented immigrant.
Normally conservative Geraldo went out on a limb (for a Fox News personality) to accuse O’Reilly of blaming the fact that the driver was in the U.S. illegally for the death of the victim.
Video after the jump.

If you live in a big city, like I do, then you should be thanking your local immigrants for keeping the city thriving this according to a U.S. Census Bureau report released last Thursday.
Immigrants long have flocked to major metropolitan areas and helped them grow. But increasingly, native-born Americans are moving from those areas and leaving immigrants to provide the only source of growth.
The New York metro area, which includes the suburbs, added 1 million immigrants from 2000 to 2006. Without those immigrants, the region would have lost nearly 600,000 people.
Without immigration, the Los Angeles metro area would have lost more than 200,000, the San Francisco area would have lost 188,000 and the Boston area would have lost 101,000.
It is important to note that the Census bureau doesn’t distinguish between undocumented immigrants and those with legalized status (maybe we shouldn’t either). The growth of the immigrant population has been credited with boosting the housing market and economy in general.

Spanish actor Antonio Banderas hasn’t been caught cheating on long time wife Melanie Griffith. Banderas will return to the Broadway stage as Don Juan in a new musical production slated to start next year. The music for the production is being done by none other than Oscar winner Gustavo Santaolalla, and a script by Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz.
I am not a huge musical theatre fan but I’ve heard that Banderas is quite good on stage and playing a historical Latin lover no less? Plus with an award winning musical director and an award winning script writer, how bad can it be?
