Eva Longoria is marrying a rapper

4:10 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|language|Music|World · 3 Comments

No, Eva’s not cheating on her fiancee, NBA star Tony Parker; it seems that Tony himself is a rapper. And he raps in…uh…French. Peep his video here:

What do you think? The first word that came to my mind when watching the video was “wickety wack”, but then again I don’t speak French nor am I a music critic.

People magazine says that Eva is mighty proud of Tony and his new rap CD and quotes a record store employee in Paris who says that the album is selling.

n_tilde.jpgWe all know that Shakira has made money off of singing in English but more and more companies around the globe including the U.S. are realizing that Spanish is where its at. Spanish is being pushed as a language important in the world of finance for example. Maybe that’s why according to an Univision.com article, around 60% of students opt to study Castellano.

Guayabero: Another Buena Vista member dead

2:37 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|Cuba|Music · Comments Off

29 Mar 2007

guayabero.jpgMusic has lost another member of the legendary Cuban group Buena Vista Social Club. Faustino Oramas, El Guayabero, died on Tuesday at the age of 95 at a hospital in Holguin, Cuba:

Acting President Raul Castro, who was temporarily handed power in July after 80-year-old Cuban leader Fidel Castro underwent emergency stomach surgery, sent a floral tribute, the state news agency AIN said.

Often called the king of double-entendres, Oramas composed “Candela” — one of the most rhythmically charged tracks on the 1997 Buena Vista CD.

El Guayabero is the fifth member of Buena Vista to die in the past 4 years; others who have left us are Compay Segundo, Ruben Gonzalez, Ibrahim Ferrer and Pio Leyva.

colombianmine.jpgFollowing in the footsteps of the Chiquita Corporation, an Alabama based mining company is being accused in a U.S. federal lawsuit of working with Colombian paramilitary organizations even paying to have union members killed.

A federal judge in Alabama last month allowed a civil suit to go forward against Drummond Co. Inc. for allegedly paying a hit squad to kill three union leaders in 2001 at one of its Colombia mines.
In a related move, Colombia’s chief prosecutor announced a formal criminal investigation into Drummond Tuesday for alleged ties with to paramilitaries.Drummond appears to have been shaken by accusations by a former paramilitary collaborator, Rafael Garcia, a key witness in the unfolding scandal, who is in prison.
Garcia says he was present when the president of Drummond Colombia, Augusto Jimenez, handed over “a suitcase full of money” in 2001 to a representative of regional paramilitary warlord Rodrigo Tovar Pupo.
