No, really Ricky Martin is officially a king. The Boricua crooner has been named the first ever King of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade.
Madelyn Lugo, President of the National Puerto Rican Parade Committee says, “Throughout its history, the Parade has awarded many personalities the titles of Grand Marshall and Padrino. As we move beyond our fiftieth year of existence, it’s fitting to create a new title to recognize Ricky Martin, an individual who is not only one of the world’s greatest entertainers, but, more importantly, a true humanitarian. Through it all he has always expressed his pride as a Puerto Rican and a Latino. He has served as one of our greatest ambassadors and we can’t think of a better role model to honor as the ‘King of the Parade.”
Now some people may object to Martin’s coronation given his recent display of his political opinions but Ricky certainly has represented musically and as a humanitarian in the last year.
The Rican parade, which takes over Fifth Avenue in NYC, doesn’t take place until Sunday, June 10th pero if you’ve ever been to the parade you know how packed it gets. With Ricky Martin confirming his presence at the event, you better start lining up now, even if that does mean competing with the Irish who will be marching this coming weekend.

What are the odds that Ricky will shake his hips with NYC Mayor Mike Blomberg during the parade much like like he did with Dubya?
That would definitely be worth putting up with the massive crowds!

Ay no- when I go to the parade I go specifically go to boo politicians ( a few years back, when Giuliani was mayor it was even made an official campaign of an org I was a part of).

I’m just thinking of the comedic situation of it all- Ricky singing some song off his latest (forgotten) album while Bloomy shifts his legs ever so slightly in a feeble attempt to “dance.”
Speaking of Rudy, I wonder if he dares to show up for the parade as part of a campaign appearance? (Perish the thought, I bet!)
