Much like how you would hose the garage down after Fido has an accident, some Maya activists in Guatemala said they would “perform a cleansing” after our President dirtied their sacred land with his presence during a visit yesterday, part of his Latin American tour:
Mayan leaders will spiritually “cleanse” ancient ruins in Guatemala after a visit by U.S. President George W. Bush, unpopular here because of foreign policies going back to Central America’s civil wars. The leaders said they would hold a spiritual ceremony to restore “peace and harmony” at the Mayan ruins of Iximche after Bush tours the site on Monday.
“No, Mr. Bush, you cannot trample and degrade the memory of our ancestors,” said indigenous leader Rodolfo Pocop during a press conference. “This is not your ranch in Texas.”
Awesome. Mayan leaders quip about the Crawford ranch like the rest of us. According to Reuters, the activists we planning to “…burn incense, place flowers and water in the area where Mr. Bush has walked to clean out the bad energy.” Oh, if that were only enough.

Former Latino American Idol finalist Mario Vazquez is being accused of having is pants down in his gallery.
Former “American Idol” finalist Mario Vasquez is facing accusations that he tried to masturbate in front of a male employee in a bathroom on the set of the hit show in February 2005. Shortly thereafter, Vasquez mysteriously dropped out of “Idol,” citing personal reasons.
Well having your penis in your hands is pretty damn personal so he was kind of telling the truth.

As normal as it might seem to some of us here in the U.S., the concept of a man doing housework or taking care of kids is still unheard of in some parts of Latin America. Mexico City wants to change that, and mayor Marcelo Ebrard is inciting his government to kick off a “re-education” plan for men in his city:
…to make them participants in domestic work, such as caring for and raising their children.“It’s about changing our mentality. We have to share work and responsibilities,” he said upon inaugurating the Equality in Gender Fair yesterday, part of the International Women’s Day festivities.
He said that above all this is important because society is not the same as 40 years ago, and now women in Mexico represent a third of the “economically active” population, and that number will grow in the next few years.
The mayor has ordered that the program — which will feature workshops, talks and courses for men, organized by the city’s Women’s Institute — begin in less than two weeks.

Starbucks wants to give you more than an overpriced cup of coffee. Yesterday the retailer announced that it now has its own record label.
Hear Music will be based in Los Angeles, and Ken Lombard, president of Starbucks Entertainment, will serve as chief manager, Starbucks said.
Concord President Glen Barros will work closely with Lombard. Concord will also help promote, distribute and market the Hear Music label outside of Starbucks stores.
Hear Music began as a chain of music stores that allow customers to burn custom music CDs and listen to any CD in the store before buying it. Starbucks acquired Hear Music in 1999 and has developed a growing music business around the brand.
In addition to selling CDs in its coffee shops, Starbucks also has a Hear Music radio station on XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc.
How much you wanna bet they’ll charge $20 for a cd to go with your $4 cafe?
