Ambassador caught with his pants down

flag.gifThis piece of news kind of lives up to what I've always thought of Consuls and Ambassadors sent to places where their role isn't of the utmost importance. I've seen the Consul of a certain European country here in San Francisco eternally drunk, and in Barcelona the Consul of another European country eternally drunk or eternally unavailable. The Israeli Ambassador to El Salvador seems to have similar problems, as he was recently found bound, naked and drunk in the streets of San Salvador:

Tzuriel Rafael has been made to return to Israel after being found drunk and naked after participating in a sadomasochistic party, says local media and sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rafael was apparently found on the street with S&M objects on his person by police in San Salvador, to whom he revealed himself as the Israeli Ambassdor.

The Israeli government is not amused, and they've replaced him in a hurry, with one source stating:

"In the 60 years of the existence of the State of Israel, some of our diplomats have shown embarrassing conduct, and that happens in all countries. But we've never had the case of an Ambassador guilty of indecent conduct on a public street. This is too much!"
Indeed. According to AP, this is far from the first embarrassing incident involving Israeli diplomats:
In 2000, Israel's ambassador to France died of cardiac arrest in a Paris hotel under circumstances the Foreign Ministry refused to publicize. Media reports said he was with a woman who was not his wife at the time.

Last year, Israel replaced its ambassador to Australia, Naftali Tamir, after he said Israel and Australia are “like sisters” because both are located in Asia and their peoples don't have the Asian characteristics of “yellow skin and slanted eyes.”

In 2005, Israel canceled the appointment of a diplomat to Australia after it was discovered that he published pictures of nude Brazilian women on the Internet while on a mission in Brazil.

That's quite a record!
