While Bush and Lula are having an ethanol flavored lovefest, Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez is starting a countertour which he began today in Argentina.
“I believe the chief objective of the Bush trip is to try to scrub clean the face of the (U.S.) empire in Latin America. But it’s too late,” Chavez said of recent Bush pledges of aid. “It seems he’s just now discovered that poverty exists in the region.”

Being a Texas girl and all, Eva Longoria likes her country music. So she’s hoping her shit-kickin’ homie Kenny Chesney (a.k.a Renee Zellwegger‘s husband for about a minute) will do her the honor of performing at her wedding in gay (ahem) Paris:
“My friend Kenny [Chesney] is going to sing at my wedding, the Desperate Housewives star tells Cosmopolitan for its April issue. Except there’s one snag: “He just doesn’t know it yet,” Longoria admits.
Is it just me, or does Eva Longoria have a really interesting assortment of friends?
Eva also told People magazine that she isn’t in a hurry to have kids, but is planning to start a family and adopt children.

If Mexican actress/producer Salma Hayek looks like she’s been putting on some weight, it’s because she has, baby weight. Through her publicist, Salma confirmed that she is with child and engaged to the baby’s daddy. And who is the proud papi? An uber wealthy Frenchman by the name of Francois-Henri Pinault who is CEO of the parent company of such luxe brands like Gucci.
Felicidades Salma! If that baby looks anything like you, that will be one beautiful bebe.

Mine: the first day of the end of Lula’s career. If there were ever a time to not be photographed hugging Dubya – in Latin America or anywhere else in the world, that time would be now.
Lula and Bush came to an agreement of cooperation between the U.S. and Brazil for the production of Ethanol, which they say will help “decrease dependency on oil”, though many believe will lead to a depletion of Brazilian crops and deforestation. Who do you believe?

9 Mar 2007Washington DC will be blessed later this month by two world music superstars in concert and just in time for Women’s History Month. Mariza & Eugenia Leon will be performing on March 23, 2007 at 7:30 pm at the Kennedy Center Concert hall.
Mariza has established herself as the new face of portuguese fado. Fado according to Wikipedia is:
Translated as destiny or fate. It is a music genre which can be traced from the 1820s in Portugal. It is characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor. Some enthusiasts claim that Fado’s origins are a mixture of African slave rhythms with the traditional music of Portuguese sailors and Arabic influence.
I have heard Mariza and her singing indeed is haunting and her roots, international. Mariza is a Mozambican. Her latest cd Transparente has been released in more than 35 countries around the world. Learn more about Mariza on her web site at www.mariza.com
