Thalia on the Radio : Mottola Marriage Has It’s Privilages

Thalia.jpgMexican singer Thalia isn’t happy with just having a clothing line and candy in her name. She’s now going to tackle the media world with the launch of a radio show.

The Spanish-language show, called “The Conexion Thalia Radio Show,” initially will be a two-hour weekly program focusing on lifestyle and community issues affecting Latinos.

The show is set to debut on March 17 on ABC Radio Networks in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami and air on Saturday, most likely in the 9 a.m. or noon time slots.

“We’re excited about the partnership with ABC Radio Networks en Espanol, the best-in-class leader in national radio syndication,” said Tommy Mottola, founder of The Mottola Company. “A national radio show gives Thalia another platform to share her unlimited talent and creativity with millions of fans and listeners. I believe this will be a whole new career for her.”

For those that don’t know Tommy Mottola is married to Thalia and I’m sure had nothing to do with helping this show get on air.

While the show is being touted as a way to serve the Latino community, Thalia herself said in a press conference yesterday that her favorite part of the show is a segment where she will help real people with their problems (who wouldn’t want advice from Thalia?) the show also serves to line the pockets of big business.

The show has already signed up a number of advertisers, including Pontiac and Amtrak, creating a revenue stream that nears $5 million.
In addition, a major Wall Street bank that does 60 percent of its business with the Hispanic community is finalizing an advertising contract with the show, sources said.

I only listen to non-commercial radio but maybe I’ll make an exception once the show debuts to give you all my take on it.
