Aló, Fidel! He’s still alive and kicking

Vivito y coleando — alive and kicking. That’s Fidel‘s current state, according to an appearance he made yesterday on his homie Hugo Chávez‘s weekly radio show, Aló Presidente. If really interested, check out the video below (with a very LONG intro, unfortunately…let it load completely then fast forward through the guy in the suit), or just read my Cliff’s Notes after the jump.

According to Fidel, he’s getting better every day. He and Chávez joked around, speaking in English, with the latter asking Castro “How are you?” and Fidel responding “Very well!” These guys sound like they are in love.

Castro went on to say “I’m making progress, I have more energy, more strength and more time to study. I’ve become a student again.” He also said that he couldn’t promise that he would be able to go see Chávez any time soon, because he needs “calm” to be able to deal with “new tasks at hand”.

Chávez criticized those who are wishing for Castro’s death, calling the Cuban leader “a historic figure that will never die.”

All feelings about Chávez and Castro aside, if I were a Venezuelan citizen, I’d be asking myself why my taxes are going towards constant radio and TV reports on the state of the health of Castro. I don’t think the entire country is as obsessed as the President is with this topic.
