Does Ellen Really Think that All People With Spanish Accents are Mexican?

I have to agree with what most critics are saying about Ellen DeGeneres hosting last night's 79th Academy Awards.She was boring and I could have done without her dancing but my ears perked up when she appeared to call Penelope Cruz "Mexican", an error she even apologized for on air later during the broadcast.

In Ellen's defense, I honestly think that she just lost her train of thought. While she was thinking about properly acknowledging the diversity that was represented by the nominees, it appears that she wanted to say something about the Volver star and then began another thought without finishing her first one.
