Banda star Lupillo Rivera‘s ex wife went ballistic on his current wife earlier this week, striking the latter multiple times in the head and leaving her injured. Police arrived on the scene and promptly arrested MarÃa Gorola, the ex wife, but she was later released on $500 bail.
Lupillo’s publicist sent VL the following statement in Spanish:
Lupillo and Mayeli would like to express their deep appreciation for the support received during this difficult week. Neither of them will offer any statements about the incident because of the discretion that a case that is still under investigation demands. In spite of being a public figure, the priority of Lupillo is the weell-being of his wife and children and he understands that any statement that he can make might hurt his children more. We ask everyone that this issue be respected as private and person. If you need more information please contact the Long Beach Police Department.
On the other hand, Lupillo’s ex, the accused, says that the “incident has been manipulated to show the other person as the victim.”

That’s exactly the question that Ecuadorian artist Eduardo Villacis asks and attempts to answer with The Art of Smoking Mirror, currently on exhibit at Bert Green Fine Art.
Villacis proposes this alternate history in a mock museum exhibit that documents the conquest of Europe by the Aztecs through an array of fake artifacts and explanatory captions written in the simplistic, knowing tone of museumspeak. This is what Mexican schoolchildren might have seen on a field trip to the local museum had their Aztec ancestors colonized Europe, instead of the other way around.

After numerous false alarms about Castro being on the verge of death, could it be that the 80 year-old Cuban leader is now getting back to his old self? CNN reports that the Venezuelan ambassador to Cuba is hinting at it:
Cuban President Fidel Castro’s health is improving because he is now eating, Venezuela’s ambassador to Cuba said Thursday.Castro, who has handed power over temporarily to his brother, has not appeared in public for more than six months since undergoing emergency surgery for intestinal bleeding.
The operation meant Castro, 80, initially could not eat, but there also were media reports that at the end of last year his health worsened again and he had to be drip-fed.
“Fidel is improving progressively. The problem is that originally he could not take in foods but now he is taking in foods and that has improved his health significantly,” Ambassador Ali Rodriguez told Venezuelan state television.

Some lawmakers on both sides of the U.S. Southern border are asking for a stop to deportations of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. until comprehensive immigration reform laws are passed.
The foreign delegates from Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, on a two-day visit to Capitol Hill, pledged to work with their U.S. counterparts to fix the immigration system, which they said has led to a “family crisis” in Mexico and a staggering loss of life along the border. They also promised to help improve security, which they said was of paramount importance, especially after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
