Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez is saying that he will not renew the broadcaster's license for television station Radio Caracas Television, saying that the station and its head,Marcel Granier, played a key role in plotting coups.
"No media outlet will be tolerated here that is at the service of coup-ism, against the people, against the nation, against national independence, against the dignity of the republic," said Chavez, wearing a red beret and fatigues in his year-end speech to troops.Radio Caracas Television is one of the country's oldest channels and began broadcasting in 1953. So that people don't say that I blindly support left-wing Latino leaders, I have to publically say that this is disturbing. A free press is one of the cornerstones of a free government. I would have to research more about Radio Caracas Venezuela and see how free it really is.
