Breaking Sunday News : Pinochet Dead?

Could it be true? Earlier this week I wrote about former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet being close to death (yet again) as he faced legal action. According to CNN.com, the Associated Press is reporting that a military hospital in Chile says that the 91 year old Pinochet has died. Stay tuned for more details.

It IS true. It’s all over the news. I’m interested to hear how people in Chile are reacting to this.

I just made a few phonecalls to Chile and to be honest I’m getting a mix of shock and happiness. Shock, because for so long they’ve lived with his pressence hanging over them. Happiness, because in many ways it ends a sense of limbo. Once the shock wears off, it will be intesting to see how reactions change especially given the fact that he was never prosecuted within Chile and because there are still so many disappeared that have not been found.
