5-07-18Nudist.jpgABC News‘ David Puente tells us on his blog, Exclusiva, how the mayor of one town is taking the problem of a dull sex life on the part of its older residents into his own hands. The solution to the issue of seniors not having enough sex (!) is, apparently, free Viagra:

“Since we started the free distribution of sexual stimulants, our elderly population changed. They’re much happier,” said Joao de Souza Luz, the mayor of Novo Santo Antonio, a small town in the central state of Mato Grosso.

The program, which was approved by the town’s legislature has been dubbed “Happy Penis,” or “Pinto Alegre” in Portuguese.

Ecuadorian president-elect Rafael Correa On Victory Tour

rafael_correa.jpgTis the season for South American president-elect victory tours. Yesterday I wrote about Hugo Chavez’s tour. Ecuadorian President-elect Rafael Correa is starting his victory run today that will take him through Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina and Colombia.

The Ecuadorian dignitary-elect is slated to meet with his counterparts Evo Morales, Bolivia; Hugo Chavez; Venezuela; Nestor Kirchner; Argentina and Michelle Bachelet, Chile, and Alan Garcia, Peru.

Apocalypto-PosterGer1.jpgLooking to Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto, set to open on Friday, as a source of historical accuracy regarding Maya culture makes as much sense as looking to this book for information about the Aztecs. Call me a judgemental, oversensitive woman of color (really, it wouldn’t be the first time) but I don’t need to see the movie to have a bad gut reaction, you know what I’m talking about Latinos, that something here just ain’t right. I sure am not gonna drop $10 plus to prove myself right and at least one group of indigenous activists in Guatemala, where a large population of Maya still live agrees.

“Gibson replays, in glorious big budget Technicolor, an offensive and racist notion that Maya people were brutal to one another long before the arrival of Europeans and thus they deserved, in fact, needed, rescue,” said Ignacio Ochoa, director of the Nahual Foundation that promotes Mayan culture.
