Kraft makes whack guac

guacamole1.jpgI never buy prefab guacamole (and most of my friends will say it’s annoying that I don’t buy pre-fab anything) and I’m glad I don’t. The ladies over at Racialious point us towards a post that reveals what is actually in a tub of Kraft guacamole, and it ain’t pretty, folks. Original clip from Chow.com:

No wonder store-bought guacamole tastes like glue: It is glue! OK, not really, but it certainly isn’t real avocados, either. As Los Angeles resident Brenda Lifsey discovered, the green glop sold by Kraft Foods is primarily composed of staggering amounts of coconut and soybean oils, corn syrup, modified food starch, and food coloring, with a minuscule amount of avocado thrown in.

And according to Chow.com, Brenda is mad as hell and is not going to take it anymore. She’s suing Kraft for ruining a three-layer dip she made last year by providing her with whack-a-mole. Yes. I’m serious.

She was so upset that she took Kraft’s ass to court on Wednesday, and her lawyer says other faux-guac purveyors will soon be targeted as well.

How did she make her discovery? “It just didn’t taste avocadoey,” Lifsey told the L.A. Times. “I looked at the ingredients and found there was almost no avocado in it.

”Kraft, on the other hand, seems to think they’ve done nothing wrong:

“We think customers understand that it isn’t made from avocado,” said Claire Regan, Kraft Foods’ vice president of corporate affairs. “All of the ingredients are listed on the label for consumers to reference.”

And what are those ingredients?

Like much of the prepared guacamole sold in supermarkets, Kraft guacamole is essentially a whipped paste made from partially hydrogenated soybean and coconut oils, corn syrup, whey, and food starch. Yellow and blue dyes give it the guacamole green color.

Sounds delicious. To be fair, Brenda should probably go ahead sue Mission, too.

Full disclosure: I do enjoy the occasional processed cheese food product, e.g. Kraft singles.

WTF? It takes about as much time to cut up the veggies and prepare Guacamole as it does to open the package and add water and stir- what is wrong with people? Or is it just companies running out of ideas on what to sell?

Also, Brenda should get off of her LAZY ASS and learn to prepare simple things from scratch. What is it with wanting to sue everyone and their mother for YOUR shortcomings? (spilling coffee on yourself, over-eating, attempting to make whack food)
