Biden Blames Mexico for Immigration and Drug Problems
12:46 H | Topics: Immigration - Mexico - Politics
Democratic Senator Joe Biden, who will soon be the Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee pointed the finger south of the border, blaming Mexico for "illegal" immigration and drugs entering the U.S.
Mexico is a country that is an erstwhile democracy where they have the greatest disparity of wealth," Biden said. "It is one of the wealthiest countries in the hemisphere and because of a corrupt system that exists in Mexico, there is the 1 percent of the population at the top, a very small middle class and the rest is abject poverty."Unless the political dynamics change in Mexico and U.S. employers who hire illegal immigrants are punished, illegal immigration won't stop. "All the rest is window dressing," he said.
An even bigger problem are illegal drugs "coming up through corrupt Mexico," he said. "People are driving across that border with tons, tons -- hear me -- tons of everything from byproducts for methamphetamines, to cocaine, to heroine."
The statements were made during a question and answer session in front of a Rotary Club audience so maybe that needs to be taken into account but Biden is one Demorcrat who has taken a hard line on the immigration issue, supporting a border fence between the U.S. and Mexico.
While certainly Mexico can and should take its share of the blame for the why immigrants continue to leave, to ignore the role the U.S. plays in global poverty and in the world drug trade well is just not looking at the big picture.

I love it. A Democrat who is not afraid of the Latino propaganda machine who will try and tear apart his words and make him out to be a racist. Bullying and intimidation are their tools of the trade. I take my hat off to you Joe.

I agree with Senator Biden and would go one step further in dealing with Mexico. We should be standing at the border with proper guns and ammunition to give to these poor folks, turn them around back to the south and tell them they now have the power to fix their problems with poverty, corruption and elitism in Mexico.
I hope to also see Biden work on fining businesses that are hiring illegals and dumping their costs on the US taxpayer, as well as work to nullify NAFTA.

Although its refreshing to hear any politician state the truth about Mexico's responsiblity for the illegal alien crisis, especially a Democratic Senator. But let's not forget that Biden, voted FOR AMNESTY for the current 20 million illegal aliens present in this country. While he's talking tough against Mexico's corrupt government and talking about enforcement against U.S. employers who hire illegal aliens, he voted FOR AMNESTY and providing in-state college tuition for illegal aliens, allowing them to pay only back taxes for the last 3 years, and giving them free access to our social safety net as reward for their illegal status. Well, Senator Biden, what's it going to be? The only way to make Mexico account to its people is to build the fence ASAP, enforce the laws we have now, and eliminate all non-emergency benefits/services to illegal aliens. When the jobs and benefits dry up, millions will simply self-repatriate, then MEXICO will have to deal with its own. It will surely be a day of reckoning.

I support Senator Biden's position linking Immigration to Mexican corruption. Biden shows some savy and guts.
We need to secure our borders and put presur on mexico to clean up its act.

Just what we needed! A bigoted Senate Foreign Relations Chairman!
How about recognizing that there is a de facto integrated labor market in North America? And that it is exploitative of migrant workers? If you don't like this bit of reality, then why don't you boycott the products of any firm that employs undocumented workers? How would you like to pay $15 for a head of "Anti-immigrant, Pro-American" lettuce, for starters?
Oh! What do you have to say about the program the U.S. Army deployed to grant immediate citizenship to any undocumented person who joins the ranks and spends 24 hours fighting in Iraq? Bet you didn't know about that! Nice work, America!
Next, how about liberalizing trade in narcotics? It's demand that's driving the supply! And how about bringing the illegal arms trade that's flooding Mexico with American guns to light? Can't see America's responsibility in the cycle, can you?
Lastly, Mexican politics is rife with corruption, but so is America's.
Rather than proposing idiotic solutions, how about learning more about the issues and holding a debate, with the facts on hand, Senator Biden. It's sad to see a Democrat sink to Republican lows.

I almost forgot to mention that over forty percent of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. overstay their visas! And the share of Asians, Europeans, South Americans, and Canadians among the undocumented is very substantial. Check out the U.S. Census office data, the DHS statistics, and the Pew Hispanic Center's reports. I, personally, will work to register as many Latinos as possible in Delaware and publicize Biden's record and lack of information on the demographics of immigration.

Wait a minute...Is Bidden saying "MEXICO is a country that is an erstwhile democracy where they have the greatest disparity of wealth"? Did he say MEXICO "is one of the wealthiest countries in the hemisphere"? Are you sure he didn't say USA? Because that sounds much more like United States than Mexico, having the biggest number of millionaires in the world and at the same time millions of people so poor that they depend on food coupons to survive, and I talk about working people. I believe Biddens should look in his own backyard before talking about Mexico's inegalities.
Jorge Ramos, is this a joke? Giving guns to Mexicans and letting them start a nice civil war that might as well spread to the U.S. (without talking about last House's Bill on immigration)? Because it seems to be happening already ! Don't scare me, compaƱero, your jokes just look too real.
