Legendary Argentine singer-songwriter Fito Paez is pissed at his ex-buddy even more legendary singer-songwriter, Spaniard Joaquin Sabina. Apparently a recent song by Sabina mentions both him and 80s rocker (and ex-friend) Charly Garcia in a not so flattering light, basically saying that they left him out in the cold in his worst moments. Now Fito is striking back:
When asked by press about their estrangement, the Argentine said that he’d rather not talk about it because, he said, “I’m a gentleman. If he wants to go around saying things, that’s his thing.”But then he immediately exploded and said “Joaquín is a professional artist; he’s like a drunk girlfriend,” and then said he didn’t want to talk about it anymore.
Paez and Sabina have been estranged since they recorded an album together in 1998.
Meanwhile, Joaquin gives thanks for Latin America, the region where he has bazillions of fans and which he credits with making him a happy man.
If it weren’t for Latin America, I’d be a lot more unhappy, and when we are touring Spain, we are dying to get back to Latin America and finish it there
.Then there’s Fito, who says he can’t stand Latino music these days:
…Páez says he doesn’t like the current Latino music phenomenon, like Mexican artists Thalía and Paulina Rubio, or the Colombian Shakira, because he says they are “created in a very technical and calculated fashion.”He said that he is not interested in hearing what they do, and said that as years go by the bar belcomes lower and lower.
“They (Paulina Rubio, Thalía y Shakira) belong to an idiosyncrasy that has nothing to do with me. It’s a hybrid genre that doesn’t have history. That music is more of a product, but anyway, freedom is free,” he said.
