Spanish pop group la Oreja de Van Gogh took home a Latin Grammy Award on Friday evening for Best Pop Album By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, but according to some they sure didn’t deserve any fashion awards. Backstage after they won a style reporter for a certain NYC based Spanish langauge newspaper dised lead vocalist Amaia Montero and a bandmate by asking and I quote, ” Why are you dressed like that?”. Amaia Montero was obviously offended and pointed out that the shirt she was wearing was Gucci and called the reporter “floja”. No wonder the music industry is going down the toilet…..too many people worrying about what musicians have on their backs instead of what kind of music they are making.

I agree with the last sentence of your post, Mala. And that was a rude question. BUT, I must admit that when I saw them they looked SO out of place in the pomp that is the Latin Grammies that it struck me as odd. I mean these events are always over the top, and on Spanish language TV people dress like it’s a gala every day. And another thing that came to mind (and was perhaps unfair of me) was whether they didn’t take the event seriously because it was a Latino thing. That’s just me being malpensada, though.
