Mexican President-Elect: Border wall a big mistake
19:19 H | Topics: Immigration - Mexico - Politics
Mexican President-elect Felipe Calderón today called the extension of the border wall proposed by the U.S. government "a serious mistake".
The comments were made in a press conference during a visit with the Canadian Prime Minister in which, according to Mexican daily El Universal he compared the building of the border wall with that of the Berlin Wall.
Calderón also called the decision on the part of the U.S. to continue with the project "deplorable" and claimed that "it won't resolve anything".
Meanwhile, Mexican president Vicente Fox is calling the wall "useless and shameful", and went on to say:
“I think this is shameful for the U.S. and proof of its inability to see the immigration issue as one of mutual responsibility."

Señor Calderon needs to mind his own business. Since when does Mexico have the right to tell us what to do about our side of the border? The United States can protect its border however it sees fit, as long as it does not encroach upon Mexican territory. And, the new fence (even though it is a political charade) does not encroach upon Mexican territory.
And then the president elect compared it to the Berlin wall. However, this comparison is completely wrong. The Berlin wall was designed to keep people in. This wall is not designed to keep people in, it is designed to keep people out. So Señor Calderon, if you don't like it, tough.
Vicente Fox continues his policy of obstructing American border security. Much of his economy depends on money coming from illegal aliens. Also, he is trying to export Mexican poverty to the United States. There is mutual responsibility, but Mexico refuses to take any. Mexico's responsibility is to discourage illegal immigration from their own country. The United States is responsible for keeping the integrity of its borders and insuring sovereignty. Mexico has no part in that.
