Chavez Says Bush is the Devil
13:40 H | Topics: Politics - Venezuela
Today was Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez's turn to speak at the United Nations General Assembly and not surprisingly his statements have pissed people off. He called U.S. President Bush "the devil" and said the the room still smelled of sulfur. Chavez then proceeded to do the sign of the cross on himself. The speech went on to talk about the U.S. as an imperial power. Chavez's speech garnered applause from the audience, which included only a low level U.S. Diplomat.
Are people really surprised or shocked by Chavez's spoken word style? Is he really saying anything that he hasn't said before? How much of the U.S. media's reaction to Chavez's statement has to do with the cultural differences between U.S. and Latin American style politics and politicians?

You really should post all of his speech, he did make some other interesting comments...my favorite,
I don't think anybody in this room could defend the system. Let's accept -- let's be honest. The U.N. system, born after the Second World War, collapsed. It's worthless.
Oh, yes, it's good to bring us together once a year, see each other, make statements and prepare all kinds of long documents, and listen to good speeches, like Abel's (ph) yesterday, or President Mullah's (ph). Yes, it's good for that.
And there are a lot of speeches, and we've heard lots from the president of Sri Lanka, for instance, and the president of Chile.
But we, the assembly, have been turned into a merely deliberative organ. We have no power, no power to make any impact on the terrible situation in the world.
Even Chavez knows the UN is a joke!

None of this is about truth or falsehoods, it's about speaking up.
Hugo Chavez is free and at least he speaks what he feels is right.
The bigger issue is too many Americans are afraid to speak up and actually question the lies fed to us.
I think its time for us to be free
http://www.personaltao.com/tao/freedom.htm
The current government has a track record of lies, and snipe hunts for WMD's. Calling anyone who doesnt agree with policy a terrorist. Is that right for freedom. To lose freedom to have freedom... Its all a bit silly now.
Should America just be comfortable and go on snipe hunts, or should Americans stand up and be themselves first and foremost before forcing our views on others??
Perhaps we should pull back and out, we are not a police state and nor should we be in other countries trying to be one.
Perhaps Chavez is more about freedom than the United States Government, telling us it isn't our job to be the police and thats why the US Government is afraid of him.
Is he right or wrong. Not the issue! As he is forcing people to look at things, and we don't like the comparison since to call Bush a devil, is to call us a devil. We are not the devil, but our actions haven't been so good either of late have they?
