060911_jonathan_3.jpgIt’s the opposite of the Elvira Arellano case. Jonathan Martínez came from El Salvador at age 8 with a teenage cousin into the United States without papers. According to Univision, Jonathan came in search of his mother, whom he had not seen in 4 years. You’re Not So Bad Yourself Arnie

schwarzenegger.jpgBy now it’s old news that California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger thinks that A)Cubans and Puerto Ricans are pretty much the same, B)Are hot blooded , and C) Have our combination of “black blood” and “Latino blood” to thank for our temperaments. These stereotypes are also old news. Latinos are lumped together depending on the context of the conversation. Take for example all the hate comments I get telling me to go back to Mexico whenever I write about immigration. Latinos, specifically the mujeres are portrayed as having short tempers and burning passions. While it is true that Caribbean Latinos do have African blood in our veins (which I carry proudly). I would like a better definition of Latino blood please. For me the Latino identity, as a Puerto Rican specifically, means that very mixture of Indigenous, Spanish, and African blood.

In an effort to level the playing field I offer the following response to Mr. Terminator: Thanks Arnie, you’re not so bad yourself for a muscleheaded, waltzing, yodeling, lederhosen wearing Austrian yourself. Strudel anyone?
