Shakira performs for 4000 in Croatia

HP_Pavilion_Concert_Floor_1.JPGTelemundo’s Cotorreando reported today that Shakira’s concert in Croatia was a huge flop, with only 4000 people in attendance of the expected 20,000. Some blame concert promoters for bad marketing of the events, while other cite the fact that the tickets — priced at $56, according to Cotorreando — were well out of the price range for fans in a country like Croatia.

Spain’s EFE via Mexico’s El Universal reports that a lot more was lost on this concert than just money:

Owners of Luna Promotions, the company responsible for the event, are pulling their hair out over a loss 320,000 euros.

Aside from suffering one of the few failures of her career, Shakira is sad because the one who loses the most is a child who has a kidney illness. Part of the profits from the show were to go to his medical treatment.

Does this mean the child won’t receive treatment now? I felt bad for Shakira when I saw the tape, but being “sad” probably isn’t going to help much. Why not shell out the 320K for the kid? I mean, she was just named one of the richest latinas, with a fortune of 66 million dollars.

Gael Garcia Bernal is Breaking my Heart

gael_garcia_bernal.jpgIf the rumores coming out of Argentina are true, then I am heartbroken. According to QuePasa Mexican actor (and hottie) Gael Garcia Bernal could be planning to walk down the aisle with Argentina’s Dolores Fonzi.

Garcia Bernal and Fonzi met in 2001 when he arrived in Buenos Aires to shoot “Vidas privadas”, first work of Argentinian singer Fito Paez. Last year, the star of “Y Tu Mama Tambien” was a guest star of the TV series “Soy tu fan”, starring Fonzi, and in which both of them lived a romance that seemed to have gone a little further than screen performances.

Well if the rumores are true don’t expect me to be throwing rice at the nuptuals. You’ll find me pouting along with Natalie Portman, Gael’s ex who interestingly enough happens to be in Argentina as well.

Born July 28, 1954, Chavez is the 53rd and current President of Venezuela. He is also a radical critic of neoliberal globalization and United States foreign policy. Chávez’s far-reaching reforms have evoked exceptional controversy in Venezuela and abroad, receiving both criticism and praise. Venezuelans are split between those who say he has empowered the poor, and those who say he is autocratic and has mismanaged the economy. Some foreign governments view Chávez as a threat to global oil prices and regional stability, while others welcome his bilateral trade and reciprocal aid agreements.
