Selena : The Musical

selena.jpgI cried when Selena was taken from this world, pero I also think that the cult of the Tejana artista who was murdered in 1995 can go a little too far. The latest incarnation of Selena products is a musical which is set to tour through Mexico and the Southwest U.S. later this year and into next year. The musical was produced in Mexico by Federico González Compeán. Compeán said of the musical with 30 dancers and actors:

Se trata de una historia muy sencilla y simple, popular, que no se plantea contar nada diferente porque sobre Selena Quintanilla (1971-1995) todo está dicho. Lo que sí queríamos era no hacer del asesinato el momento más trascendente, si bien es imposible obviar su relevancia.

My concern is where is all the money that is going to be generated from this musical going to go?

I completely agree with you. Her father is to blame for commercializing her to this extent after her death.

Seriously, who else would allow all those countless specials on Univision. I love Selena and watching her performances are always bittersweet, but I always wonder if they produce them just for the ratings I know they’ll get. During this last one (that I watched and cried through) I turned to my mom and said “Are they ever going to let this poor girl rest?”

She was the best out there in the Hollywood list. her memory isn’t keeped alive because of her father its keeped alive thanks to all the faithful fans she has out there still admireing her wonderful work. Thanks to the fans every child borned gets to know that there was an amazing person here on earth and still even after her not being here physicaly has changed many of our lives. I try to be more and more like her every day and try to make a difference in this world. Selena has changed my life completely i really am greatful of being alive when she was still here.
