ImageHandler.aspx.jpgReports of Don Franciso‘s perviness aside, Univision announced a month long celebration honoring Sabado Gigante and its 20 years on air. According to release by Univision:

The contributions that Don Francisco has made to the Hispanic community throughout his twenty-year run as host of Sábado Gigante in the U.S. are enormous and we look forward to many more memorable broadcasts that will continue to entertain and touch the hearts of millions of Hispanics for years to come.

To celebrate the occasion, the Spanish language network will be airing a special tribute episode on May 20th.

Love it or hate it, Sabado Gigante certainly was a part of my childhood and it’s still required watching at Abuela’s house.

Sábado Gigante, featuring legendary host Don Francisco, remains the longest-running variety show in television history, with a new show every week – all without reruns. A Saturday night tradition in most Hispanic homes throughout America, “Sábado Gigante” is consistently one of the highest rated weekend shows on television.

And if you think Don Francisco is a celeb here, always managing to get the hottest in Latino entertainment to sit with him and perform, you should see how people turn out for him in his native Chile especially for his Teleton which literally takes over the country and has earned $240 million over the past 28 years for disabled children there.
