Forget Undocumented Immigrants. The Puerto Ricans may be coming!

14:37 H | Topics: Puerto Rico

capt.xbl10705020034.puerto_rico_government_shutdown_xbl107.jpgAs the financial crisis in Puerto Rico enters into its 8th day, leaving nearly 100,000 government employees without work and the Commonwealth losing its current credit ranking, there is growing talk that the fiscal crisis will cause a growth in movement from Puerto Rico into the United States. Carlos Irizarry, a Kissimmee City, Florida Commission candidate was quoted as saying:

Ready or not, we have to take it and work with it. As Americans, [everyone has] the right to go from state to state to look for a place that will benefit their family.

But can the U.S. handle more workers? Isn't part of the whole immigration debate centered around the concern that people from outside the U.S. are taking U.S. jobs? Armando Ramirez, a San Juan native who is running for the County Commission in Kissimmee said:

More people will create more pressure on municipal services -- including schools already crowded and roads that are congested. He doesn't think officials are ready for a big influx.
So we already know that many racists , I mean patriots, don't want anymore Mexican workers. What about Ricans?

Puerto Rico is already a part of the US so in some respects it isnt the same argument. These are people already citizens and with rights, Its not an ADDITION to the US, they are already part of the US.
Its more akin to Texas being overwhelmed with people from New Orleans than illegal immigration.

Im sure people will complain, they always do.

Well that's part of the arguement I'n trying to make. The immigrants that are here are also part of the US, especially in terms of the economy. Additionally the rights Puerto Ricans have depend often on where they are. As soon as Ricans establish residency in one of the 50 states they will be able to vote for president, something they cannot do when living on the isleand of Puerto Rico. My point is just as people is texas and other states complained about the being overwhelmed by mostly black Katrina refugees, people will complain about an influx of Ricans.

Because we puertorricans are going trough this crisis like:schools are closed , teachers and other many public workers are not getting payd, there is alot of sadness, people see each day that slowly their savings are sliping off, there is alot of insecurness with what the Goverment is doing whith their money, Yes, there are some who got their passpors ready to leave but it still doesnt' mean we are all leaving our home land. Me and my family are one of those thousands of puertorricans that are dealing with this crisis and still we have the hope that this will be solved.we puertorricans have suffered and pass thru alot of things thru our history but we are still here, and in front of the goverments house to march and keep going , we puertorricans are so strong and proud of who we are ,we all as 1 will get thru this till we find the key to bring peace to our Puerto Rico.

Bueno whatever the outcome is, the Puerto Rican people will survive, they, we always have (but you don't need your passport to come to the U.S.).

Puerto Ricans are all ready citizens in the U.S. My question is "Whats the problem?" just because we hispanics they consider us immigrants as well. What ever the situation is the President will not take action any how. All he is worried about is, getting rid of soldiers. He does not know how to take care of the country. Is more like a joke to him, thats how it seem. Puerto Ricans have the right to get all the help we need. We are citizens, We are humans and are in need. They all know that but they prefer not to deal with it. They have so much in there hands that they still trying to find out how to deal with it.

Puerto ricans are U.S citizens and if we decide to move elsewhere we are free to do so..the island is going through a crisis due to our own choices in the people we voted for to run the country..if we decide to stay here I'm sure this will soon pass and things will be back to normal or atleast much better than now...for those that feel that they may have a better life elsewhere its a personal decision but things aren't running smoothly anywhere.

I hope they stay in the US. Most of them are pro statehood anyway, Puerto Rico needs to get rid of these leaches who do nothing and will not fight for the future of our nation, Puerto Rico. I hope they leave fast and never come back. We need people who will work and love PR here in the island, we do not need pro-statehood leaches whose desire is the death of our nationhood. Sounds Great news to me, GO! GO NOW AND NEVER COME BACK! Puerto Rico will belong to those who fight for it, not those who run like rats.
