If timing is everything, then its only fitting that I should come across a story on CNN today about a flash animation video game called Border Patrol. The game’s obejctive is sinister in its simplicity. Shoot stereotypical animations of a Mexican nationalist, a drug smuggler, or a “breeder”, a pregnant woman with a child and an infant, as they cross the border into the U.S. Every hit of a brown “wetback” is a score complete with blood. The sign that says Welcome to the United States of America has a Star of David on it, indicating that this is more than just a Mexican hating game.
There is also a sign showing where the welfare office is, because well we all know that all immigrants are on welfare. Once the game is over la Cucaracha plays. The game and the stereotypes it portrays are hardly new or very original for that matter. Various websites cite that the game was created around 2002. The game can be downloaded easily and for free which is lucky for me because Latina that I am, I haven’t gotten my welfare check this month.

Apparently, this game isn’t exactly a new thing. Noti Los Angeles reported on it some time last year.

This game should be no more offensive to mexicans or people of mexican heritage than some of the White bashing anti American Mexican Rap music that can be heard playing in the streets. I would say it’s no more than “artistic expression”
You know not all Americans are “white”
