Andrés Serrano : Piss and Pimps in Puerto Rico
09:52 H | Topics: Arts - Puerto Rico
The son of a Honduran father and a Cuban mother, photographer Andrés Serrano has a history of controversy he carries through his raw photography. Serrano is probably most imfamously remembered for his 1987 work Piss Christ, which is described in a recent release for his current show as being a photograph...
...in which Serrano immersed a crucifix in substances derived from corporal waste.Which basically means the crucifix is photgraphed in pee.
Serrano has a thing for body fluids including blood and semen. But don't expect just that at the Walter Otero Gallery in the Puerto Rican capital which is exhibiting A eight photographs in huge format. Andrés Serrano: Selected works features not just pee and frozen semen, but also portraits from his series titled America which include portraits of a pimp, a boy scout, and a set designer in bondage gear. This mostly self-taught artist can be seen at the Walter Otero Gallery in Puerto Rico until May 4. If you're in Puerto Rico between now and then, take a break from the beach and check it out.
