Limbaugh: Undocumented immigrants "unwilling to work"

13:52 H | Topics: Immigration - Media - Radio

new-rush.jpgIt comes as no surprise to anyone that Rush Limbaugh is anti-immigrant. However, a recent quote has left me in tailspin. Apparently he believes that immigration to the United States is Mexican president Vicente Fox's way of eliminating a criminal element in Mexico -- by exportation. And if that weren't enough (hold on to your horses) he says that the immigrants that come to the U.S. are "unwilling to work".

LIMBAUGH: One of the puzzling things about this to me, since President Bush has been in office, is his -- you know, he had a very close relationship with [Mexican President] Vicente Fox, and I don't --

CALLER: Right.

LIMBAUGH: I don't -- I -- I think the opposite of what you suggest is actually what's been happening. But look at it from Vicente Fox's point of view. I mean if -- if you had a -- a -- a renegade, potential criminal element that was poor and unwilling to work, and you had a chance to get rid of 500,000 every year, would you do it?

I guess that explains the endless lines of workers lined up in Home Depot parking lots in Atlanta or all those guys I see waiting outside of my local hardware store in San Francisco.

Whatever your politics, you have to be an idiot to think that immigrants entering this country illegally are here to do anything other than work. What good are they to their families unless they earn money to send back? Don't you think the "criminal element" would just as soon stay in Mexico and be lazy than risk their lives crossing the border? Think about it.

I did not hear Mr. Limbaugh say what he said, in fact, I've never completely listened to one of his shows (I do work). It is obvious, however, just from reading this selected bit of transcript that he was referring to Mexicans in MEXICO. How can you not understand that? It doesn't take a rocket scientist. I understand that he is saying that Vicente Fox, or whoever, would have no reason to help us in the U.S. out by discouraging illegal aliens from coming here. The Mexicans that sneak in are poor people. Of course they work when they're here, duh. But, I'm sorry, if you're sneaking across the border into America, you're not exactly, shall we say, the crême de la crême. Otherwise you wouldn't sneak in and work at some crappy job for 5 bucks an hour. Therefore, I'm sure Mr. Fox isn't sorry to see that element leave; his country can't sustain all the poor people on public assistance. Sometimes truth hurts, but it doesn't change things. I, for one, love immigrants. I love how they look at America as the land of opportunity that it is, the contributions that the majority of them make, and the chance to be exposed to different cultures. America is a land of immigrants. Oh, wait, let me specify: I love LEGAL immigrants. See the difference? Illegal=against the law. I don't break the law. I don't think it's acceptable for others to do so, either. That's the issue here, not discrimination or whatever anyone tries to make it. If American citizens are forbidden to break the law how is it okay for non-citizens to? Not fair.

Actually statistics show that it is not the poorest of the poor or the "bad element" as you so kindly labeled, that are coming here to the United States. That is a misconception I would dare say is based in stereotypes.

Limbaugh is not anti-immigrant. He is anti ILLEGAL immigrant. What part of illegal do you not understand? If you cross the border ILLEGALLY you have BROKEN THE LAW. The offender should be deported immediately.

Rush,
Consider this Idea: Why aren' t all illegals issued a passpor from the country of origin? And' all expences the cost the american citizens be placed on a Tab for that country. We are now required to have a passprt to leave the country. So' they should all be lining up at their embassy, anyone not doing so should be DEPORTED when caught. After trying endlessly to get on the phone. Iwish all our leaders would realize its time for US to have revoloution and Kick these law breaks out: We should be able to decide, Castro cleaned out his prisons, mental instutions and sent them to south Fla. Who needs more?

It seems that many liberals and just do-gooders want to twist the words or meanings stated regarding trespassing illegal.
1. Undocumented = Illegal trespassers unauthorized to be on this property or country.
2. Against Immigration = An attempt to lump legal immigrants with Illegal trespassers.
3. They pay taxes = Illegals pay sales taxes, because they can't find away around it. Show me an illegal with a REAL SS number and one that files a 1040 on April 15th or has to buy Turbo Tax. Show me an illegal that pays property taxes to support all the services in the community.
4. Illegals are good for the economy = How is sending $20 billion every year back to Mexico, good for the US Economy? They also keep wages down.
5. Illegals do jobs that Americans don't want to do = It should state...Jobs that Americans won't work for the low pay. Increase the pay and Americans would do those jobs.
6. Elected Officials support Illegals = The politicians want the Hispanic vote. To bad only about 11% are registered to vote.
7. Mexicans want to be US Citizens = We hope they want to stay here and vote for me. Fact is many have no interest in staying in the US and becoming a citizen.
8. Our forefathers were all imigrants = They were Legal and had papers.

Have our elected officials lost contact with the real world? Do they think that the average taxpayer is dumb?
Funny that I have to spend $200 for a Visa to get back in this country (Vacation outside the country) Illegals don't need any papers. After all, they are undocumented.
